In 2004 the Shoot Out Club staged the very first Skittles Championship the country had ever seen.
With just under 100 teams from as far a field as Cornwall and Worcestershire, South Wales and Dorset, the Blackthorn British Skittles Championship proved to be a great success.
Teams were first split into regional groups and competition started in late May. Following the completion of the group stages in July, some teams qualified directly to the Grand Finals whilst others had to win knockout games to get through.
16 teams qualified for each of the Men's, Ladies and Mixed events held on Saturday 24th September at Sand Bay Holiday Village. The Skimmers from Dorchester took the Mens title, Railway Rockers from Cardiff on their Ladies Champions title and Wallbangers from Ledbury taking the Mixed title.
When the final stages of the Grand Finals got underway to the strains of "Rocky" and "War of the Worlds", the noise from the 600-strong crowd was deafening - the atmosphere was electric - these championships were always going to be a winner and long may they continue!
All venues competed for Home Alley of the Year and this was won by the Working Men's Club at Weston-Super-Mare, home to AKA Predators. The award was presented by Bath, England and British Lions rugby full-back Matt Perry.
Thank you to all teams for taking part and making 2004 a resounding success!
All winning teams received cheques for £1000 and runners-up received £500 sponsored by Blackthorn.
